Hey guys
I decided to get me a POD XT Live again. I need some help with playing via my laptop. I installed the drivers and i tested simple recording with sound recorder and it works fine. What i need help with, with playing with backtracks and recording stuff later. How do i get the sound that's recorded to be played back via the soundcard. I know i can use the POD XT as an external soundcard and plug earphones in the rear but i want to use the soundcard, this should be nicer and easier to mix with at a later stage.
So, how can i route the output etc? This is one thing im really a newbie with :-[

It's a setting in your software. Much consumer software will use the system default automatically (which is set in Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices - Audio), but any vaguely pro piece of software will allow you to choose between (or even choose multiple cards) in it's settings or Options.

Thanks allan, whats a decent but simple program to start of with?

Reaper is inexpensive shareware ($50 - it also has an unlimited trial so you can use it for as long as you like before you buy it) and is comprehensive, but as with many of the better packages, it's still fairly complex. Good way to get started, 'cos it can do everything most people will need - quite a few users here too, so you have that resource.
I use Sonar, mainly because it does more than I need and I've used Cakewalk since V3 for DOS, so I'm comfy using it. To some degree, you do get stuck with what you start using because it often takes relearning a lot of things to move to another piece of software.

Thanks alan, I'll have a look at that. Recording demos and stuff is not something i really need to do now. As long as i can play via the laptop and record simple licks and things so i can listen if i'm not playing clean or out of time.

OK dudes i need help
I tried reaper and got the monitor thing working but theres a bit of a problem, there is huge delay, about 1sec from when a note is played till i hear it through the laptop. It cant be the speed of the laptop as its a 2.4GHz Core2Duo with 2GB of ram? What could it be? Maybe the onboard sound card?

Latency - look in the driver settings for the soundcard for an adjustment. Lower settings take more computer power, but you should have enough. If you don't have an ASIO driver, download ASIO4ALL and use that.

Ill give that a shot, thanks alan!

For simple recording tracks onto PC you can also use Audacity. We use it at church and records very cleanly. I have also used it to create some demo tracks for people.
Its free, but does not like Vista (What does....... :-\)

Hi again guys
I installed and tried asio4all, im sitting with a problem. When selecting the asio driver in reaper i get recording going through the asio driver, but i cant seem to get the output going though my soundcard, its not the monitoring as i got that working with direct input. All i can think of is that asio4all doesnt route the sound properly or something.
