Ok, just confirmed this now with Guitar Pro 5.2 running under Vista and using a Toneport UX2 as the output device.

In Guitar Pro, select "Options" -> "Audio Settings". At the bottom of the panel under "RSE Settings", set "Audio" to "ASIO Low Latency" and for "Sound Card" set "ASIO Toneport UX2". Make sure in the main UI you have RSE enabled and have RSE instruments selected for each instrument in the mix.

You can't use the (default) MIDI instrumentation for output as the device itself has to generate the tones in that case (rather than just playing back sounds) and the Toneport cannot do this.

I believe you need a licensed version of Guitar Pro to use RSE.

uuh :sorry: I turn off my RSE...In fact, I Prefer Guitar Pro 4 over GP 5 just being faster and easier to use and there's less flashy things on the screen.

Thanks for the guidance.. I used to have RSE but then as my version got older I started getting a message saying 'please update to view this file'. I was so over it (back then I only had 56k dial up so downloads bigger than like 3mb were out of the question) that I borrowed my friends version, not thinking whether it was licensed, i'm guessing its not since it didnt have RSE with it. So therein lies my problem, i shall try to remedy it ?

I also prefer using midi instead of RSE.. but GP5 is way better than GP4 imo. It looks nicer when you print files ?

I just downloaded and paid for GP6 ...i had a cracked version of gp4 and decided to do the right thing.

By gum i am blown away by the functionality of GP6 ,..am going to need to relearn the app.

From my experience with guys who use GP heavily, I find they dont have an ear, cant tell weather they are in and out of key, and you have to spoon feed them the songs. The only reason I used it was to tab songs for a guy who could not figure out 2 songs in 2 months. The kid could shred all the songs he had on tab, but ask him to compose a solo over my riff, he was lost for weeks, and the solo he eventually played was ripped from a 'Decapitated' song in the same key, literally copy paste.

+1 Many fall into this trap, I knew a guitarist who could play Sultans of Swing, note for note(The lead parts at least) all learned from Guitar Pro, but had no idea of what chords were used, or what key etc. In fact you could not jam with him at all.

But I think it's still a useful tool, if used correctly

Yes it can be, I've used it to learn long complex sequences.

I guess I'm kinda guilty of being 'guitar pro' taught. I use it mostly to compose nowadays, but only recently have I been able to start writing more complex leads over rhythm sections. I still don't really know what key I'm in or what scale I'm playing, but I've kinda got a feel for what notes should be played where. I'm just a guitar hobbyist, so I'm allowed to be this way ?

I also use guitar pro a lot to learn my songs, before I used to use text tabs and then play along with the song on the CD to learn the timing. The thing is that I find that even though I'm "guitar pro taught" I think my ear is gradually getting trained. I've learned about 3 songs just because I've been messing around with scales and suddenly thought "Hey , that sounds like the intro to {insert song name}!" and then through messing around I'll learn quite a bit of the song, then get stuck and "cheat" by googling the tabs to help me along.

Another thing that is happening is that I'll be learning from a tab and then hit a section that doesn't sound right, or is impossible to play (for me) , so I'll sit and work out an alternative (sometimes with a tuner ☹ ) and then tab the corrections so that it sounds right to me. Maybe that's a good way of learning with GP?

I really wish I could learn entire songs by ear, but I guess it's a skill that need years and years of training (and possibly professional tuition). I've only had my electric for 1 year this month (yay!) and total playing 2 years so I have a loooooong way to go...

I've used GP for years but once getting the gist I always play the original material... some things just sound terrible in GP.

I also use it quite a lot for 'tabbing' my own compositions... I seem to be terrible at remembering any rock/metal stuff I write. To remember my classical/acoustic stuff I generally just use my phone's recorder, hehe. Sounds terrible but it doesn't matter.
