I have the Marshal 20 watt Valvestate as a practice amp. If you looking at the same one, i can give you the low down on it.

I've got a Marshall (Valvestate) AVT 275. Will play any Vox Valvestate equivalent, (and I have tried some) out into the ground! Then again, I am a Marshall freak, I love the sound I get from it. I am sure the Vox nuts will disagree. The only Vox sound I like is Brian Mays, but then again, I don't have a Brian May Custom guitar! If we go back a 1000 years, The Beatles'. Hahahahahahahahahaha.

Danie, I don't know where you live, but if you're in the JHB area, will lend you my one for a week, try it out, and then go try the Vox before you decide.

VOX!! Check around, you may be able to get the AD series quite cheap. I know that Turnkey has one AD100VT for 6195-00. Well they did last week. But then again that's in JHB.

I owned the Marshall Valvestate 275... sure it sounded ok, but always seemed to get lost in the mix. The best I got out of it was a really nice clean tone with pedals for dirt.

I played (not owned) the Vox AD50VT and think its a much better amp. loads more versitility (amp models) and it seemed to just sound better! and it has a tap tempo for the effects which the marshall doesn't.

Yep, can't argue with that. Again, decisions.....advice....... Like I said previously, ask an opinion from the masses, and you will always get biased answers. Difficult situation. I can also understand why people ask these type questions! Nobody likes to spend a few grand and find they made a mistake, by not liking what they hear. So, try the different amps, and then decide what YOU like, what sounds good to your ears! And of course, what suits your budget.

The "nice clean tone" is what I like about it. Then, that's me.

I'll try and be impartial. I've never been a big fan of "the Marshall sound", but I appreciate it, know where it fits in the scheme of things and like how other people make them sound. Having said that, even as the Marshall sound goes, the Valvestates are unimpressive to my ear, harsh and fizzy and tend to get lost in the mix.

Go for the Vox.

Fair enough - sound and especially "tone" is completely subjective and truthfully, I cannot pass judgement on the tones someone else finds "good" or "bad" unless I hear them in context - and with their ears and perception.

At the end of the day, what is important that you make whatever sound or tone it is work in the context of your music. Some of my musical heroes use purposely ugly tones to achieve a particular effect.

Think Im going for the Vox, can get a good deal, but there is a little hole in the speaker cloth...

Does anyone know where I can get some brown Vox Diamond Speaker cloth?

Um the Valvetronix series doesn't use as far as I know, which model are you looking at?
