People keep asking where to get lessons in Joburg, so here's one worth knowing about. Music with Mario and Friends is a music school on Main Road in Bryanston.
Full disclosure: it's just down the road from me, and I'm hoping to set up some jams there. Mario seems keen. I haven't had lessons there myself yet, but the location on Main Road is really convenient. If you've driven down Main Road you've probably seen their ads. They look super professional, and they've got their shit together.
They teach guitar, bass, drums, piano, vocals, violin, sax, ukulele and theory. You can go to the studio in Bryanston, or do lessons online if you're not in Joburg.
How it works:
- Your first lesson is free.
- Private lessons are 30 minutes once a week. Group classes are an hour.
- Lessons follow a step-by-step plan, so each one builds on the last. They use songs to teach technique and theory, so you're not just copying riffs like a parrot.
