Manfred-Klose Found thos page where you can buy an ebook to learn how to do a finish with spraycans: http://www.paintyourownguitar.com/ Anyone ever tried something like this?
AlanRatcliffe My first half dozen refinish jobs (or as they were all on the same guitar, actually the same refinish job done multiple times) were done with rattle cans. It's possible to get decent finishes with them, especially if the cans have nice nozzles.
Spyke Yup, the Epi was done with aerosols. My advice is to buy the best you can afford, shake it well and don't skimp on preparation. You spray it in a similar fashion to spraying with a gun. Fluid, long strokes at a steady speed about 20 - 30cm away from the surface. Multiple passes, don't be tempted to go back over a section that didn't get a nice cover, you'll end up with runs. Try rectify it with the second coat (which should only be 24hrs later). I skimped on prep work, it cost me.
LMinnie IMHO unless you are a graffitti artist or really know what youre doing it should not be attempted by first timers.....you WILL end up dissapointed...I guarantee it... You just cant beat a compressor, touch up gun and an airbrush.... ? and as every everyone should know...your finish is only going to be as good as the preparation underneath it.... I started the refinish on Spykes old Epi Friday nite and I only finished prep work on Sunday afternoon..alot of primer and flating and sore arms later. I'll start a thread later this week once Iam done..
