It's been a while since I played guitar... Basically since before the birth of our son in 2019. I happened to join the recentish guitar talk garage day, which happened to be local to me at @Stoffeltoo's place in the byl. As a result of the garage day I joined him and the other members of Margi and the Mustangs (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558371042917 please give the FB page a like)
We started practicing... I had a repertoire of like 50+ songs (not the age of the songs... well some of them... but over 50 songs to try learn). At our first practice it was brought to my attention that we had a gig in 3 weeks. The gig was pushed out by a week as a result of the venue management and entertainment coordinator having a misunderstanding... but roll on 25 May and we hit the stage at Die Veiling/Harry's pub and grill in Sasolburg.
This was our office for the day:
Meet the band:
left to right, Basil (bassist), Margi (vox and acoustic guitar), @Stoffeltoo (vox and acoustic guitar), Johan (Drums), Me (electric guitar and vox).
With nerves on edge we arrived early and set up the PA and did sound check... in under an hour. The gig itself went pretty decently with the odd power trip interrupting the show but we had a great time and got some decent positive feedback from the crowd and venue.
On 31 May 2024 we did a small acoustic/practice gig at the bowls club in Deneysville. Setting up the sound was... a challenge as we had a few hiccups to sort out, but we got the hiccups hiccupped and played a decent 3 hour-ish set. Someone caused the singer to be unable to complete "Alice" after shrieking "who the hell is Alice" like some sort of street creature from Korporasie Stories... said person may or may not be in the band and may or may not be making this post. We can neither confirm nor deny said accusation, for legal reasons.
Today we had a gig at the Streetwise pub and grill biker bar in Meyerton. We had a pretty decent time after taking a break from practicing for the last week or so and going into semi hibernation because of the weather (we want the snow, not JUST the cold here in Gauteng thank you!). Once again a roughly 3 hour set with a few breaks in between.
We were a tad cramped... but still had a rocking time:
The band's youngest fan (My son) enjoyed the gig and has managed to understand that he cannot be WITH Daddy but can be right as close as possible:
