MIJ Fender Strats

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on MIJ fender Strats. I just bought one and I'm quite keen to hear what others think about them. Mine is a '97.

I love MIJ Strats , they are extremely well built and reliable.

And the same goes for the MIJ Tele's

Judging from the tone you get out of your stuff (listened to your clips, very good), I am now convinced they surely are! After all, they do carry the name "FENDER".

Some extremely crappy instruments have also carried the name "Fender". Part of the reason that MIJ Fenders are remembered so fondly is that the guitars that came out of the actual Fender factory were so bad.

Both mine comes from the actual factory, they sound ok, well at least to me, the wife and especially my boys!!! ? ? ?

talking about USA fenders not being that great ..... about 10 yrs back i was working the Dubai hotel scene as a musician , and managed to buy a custom shop USA strat, from a music store in Dubai....when they had a 50% off sale.... and paid something like R10 000 for it ... it has a rosewood fingerboard custom locking machine heads (which made the headstock just look wrong to have those little wheels on the back of the machine head, and noiseless pick ups...which were just the rage then.... and a custom colour ... ) i bought it expecting this was the guitar i would hold onto for life.... after the novelty wore off .... and yes it was a nice guitar ... but just that ... nice not extraordinary.... i played it the whole following year when i played guitar in blues bands and i got the prescribed blues tone.... ( yes in my younger days i was an electric player) but that guitar for all it's pedigree never grabbed me ........ eventually i sold it for twice what i paid and have never missed it....

also i would never have paid the asking price for it ,without the 50 % discount...

so yeah don't get sucked in by a name .... or tradition.... it does not mean for a huge price tag and fender on the headstock you get a great guitar ...even from USA

but i must say fender make great bass's and i still reckon no bass can beat the USA fender precision....ok my bass's were all USA but dating from 70's to 90's i still own 3 of them... they get greatest sound in studio and for any bassist i reckomend the P bass it might be limited but the one tone it offers is the sound on 1000's of cd's and is a sure winner on any track.... heheheh talk about price increases... i teach bass here in jhb and wanted to buy a P bass here in jhb (my bass's are lying in storage in UK) ... i see they marked at R20 000...lol my last one i bought for about R4000 ... i don't know how young musicians afford the Fenders anymore....

Whether you are a MIA-man, MIJ-man, or even MIJ-man (or person), if you are happy with what you have and what it does for you what you want, is all that matters!
I have only ever had several MIA-Strats, and Teles, and maybe I'm lucky, they were all awesome!
And I love the tone AndrewJBryson gets out of his MIJ and MIM Strats.

Strats, I've had a few. ? Everything from MIM to real '60s US models. Even had a '70s big stock three-bolt dog. I think the most valuable thing they taught me was that a good guitar is a good guitar and a bad 'un is a bad 'un - regardless of where or when it was made. Anyway, Stevie Ray on a MIM would still sound better than me, regardless of the guitar I played ?

After reading the last few posts, went to my music room, took out my MIA-Strat, plugged it into my MIUK-Marshall, and jammed with Clapton on the MIUK-Beatles' version of "While my guitar gently weeps". ☹ :'( ☹

Look, if I started playing electric I'd want a Fender - no question of that. But I wouldn't want one built in the late 60s, and even less one built in the 70s. They had a severe dip in quality. That situation was not permanent, but there was an era of really crappy Fenders.

Sigh of relief!!! The one I have now is a '94.
