Seeking a bit of input on a planned upgrade. I've got a 96 or so Mexican Strat that I'm looking to do a pickup upgrade on. I'm keen to try a Seymour Duncan Little 59 single coil sized humbucker in the bridge. Currently I find the stock bridge pickup to trebley unless I roll the guitar volume back to 7-8 (no treble bleed capacitor fitted, so this bleeds off some treble). The Little 59 is modeled after a Gibson PAF and generally consensus is that it is a little dark. I play pretty much classic rock sort of stuff (Purple, Lizzy et. al.) through to traditional metal (Iron Maiden etc). Looking for a bridge pickup with a bit more grunt than the stock single coil, I realise the humbucker will lose me some of that strat honk though.
The problem is that I can find a Little 59 for the neck at a decent but not a bridge pickup. From SD the specs are:
Bridge: Resistance= 11.78k, Tonal Centre=4.6khz
Neck: R=5.8khz, TC=5.8khz
Best specs on the stock pickups I can find is resistance=6.8k.
Any one got any idea if the neck Little 59 is going to work OK in the bridge position and not be too bright? From the resistance figures it seems to fall between the stock pickups and the proper bridge 59.

The neck version is obviously a lot lower powered and brighter than the bridge version which is pretty common for modern pickups. In short, rather wait for a bridge version to show up.
BTW. Original PAFs are in the 8 - 9 KOhm range, but it's impossible to compare pickups of different designs by using DC resistance, so you can't compare the PAF's to the Little '59s to a Strat pickup.

Thanks Alan - that's what I suspected. I really wish there was some way of comparing pickups across types and styles that was actually useful. Unfortunately in this country buying a pickup, trying it out and returning it is not an option. Lucky yanks.
