Just bought a Hamer DA-3 on gumtree; after taking council from our venerable resident guru.
Intention is to disassemble it and rebuild it around the new body I'm making ... thus (hopefully) figuring out firsthand how a strat hangs together.
Cost R 780.
A brief lookup shows it was made in Indonesia in about 1996.
I was expecting cheap & nasty ... but it plays really nicely and sounds good !!
Quirks are:
- rather unattractive "SLAMMER" on the headstock
- missing button on the selector switch (seller whipped it off to put on another guitar)
- bridge pickup is a trifle bright on its own
- tuners have rather sharp edges
