Amp first! The amplifier is as much part of the true sound of an electric guitar as the guitar itself (some say more). A good amp will make even an inexpensive guitar sound reasonably good, while a bad amp can make even the best electric guitars sound bad.
Without a decent amp you cannot even judge how good a guitar's tone is.

I only play at home for fun, so Im just looking for a decent setup to have fun with...
For LOTS of fun, go the software route...Guitar Rig, your PC and a good soundcard and monitors/speakers. That way you get all the amps and effects you ever wanted, and probably didn't even know about, and all the fun that's possible with clothes on...! ?

I offered to swap Danie my:
- Paul Reed Smith Santana SE (with Seymour Duncan pickups: Jeff Beck AND Jazz, at a R1000 each)
- Hardcase
- Boss DS-1 Distortion Pedal
for his:
- Les Paul copy (no case)
- R2000 cash
and he turned it down... some people can't see a good deal when it comes along ?
He would be getting a MUCH better guitar, hard case and a decent distortion pedal.
For me, I'm just wanting a decent backup guitar and cash to go towards paying off my Gibson Les Paul. Everybody wins...
Who thinks would be getting a great deal? What do you say Danie?

I hear you Alan, however there's no harm in a little encouragement ? especially if someone not very knowledgeable isn't aware of what they could be missing out on ?

Well, convince him of that fact that he might be missing out on something and he
will ask for other's opinion. Getting a bunch of us to pressure him is exactly that - pressure. And pressure makes most people uncomfortable.
Speaking for myself, I don't like being pressured - the very fact that someone is trying to push me into something will kill the deal before it starts. Someone who plants a seed of interest and lets me make my own mind up is far more likely to succeed, as I end up selling it to myself - and I'm someone who's opinion I trust implicitly. ?

Let's just get the forum back on track.
I'll tell you what I did, I have been playing for 8 years and of that it's ALL acoustic. About 5 years back i bought a PRS and a Marshall Valvestate 80w. I did not like the amp at all and it did nothing for me... I can honestly say i played that maybe 10 hours at most in the 5 years that i owned it. I just didn't like anything i could get out of it.
UNTIL January this year where i decided, i want a tube amp. (After Playing on many) So i bought this little 15w VC15 and now i cant put it down and got myself a US Fender Strat with it. ?
For me the amp changed from not being bothered to play, to NOT PUTTING IT DOWN.
IMO get the AMP!!! :goodtimes:

To Danie & other members: I apologise for the post which you guys have taken offense to. Anyone who has chatted or commented back in forth with me will know I joke around a lot, and I guess expected the tone of the forum to be relatively light-hearted.

What kind of music do you enjoy most? I don't know what the other guys think, but i feel that plays just as big a role in your amp selection :bopping:

I just play for fun...
When I hear a cool song I sit and figure it out, play it a few times and then move on...
So basically any decent all round amp...

To reiterate what Alan said, try the guitar on a few different amps, or buy a better one. There should be nothing wrong with the Epi, it's a nice piece of kit - the weak link is the amp. If you get an amp that's worth it's salt, then try change the guitar.

Yup, I'd also go for the amp first, lot's of people looking for EPI's these days, I doubt that it is the problem. As stated before, give us your style of music, and we will rpovide you with plenty of options to spend your money on, the only thing we like more than spending our own money is helping other people spend their money!
P.s. Rocker007, no offence taken, we are a light hearted bunch as well, we just try to be a tad more straight forward when it comes to the buying and selling of things, specifically because it is impossible to gauge the tone of a forum post, it may come across wrong and influence the deal ?

I found a friend in a Laney VC15, They are pricey, and by far not the best i've played, but good value for money.
But don't expect to get a decent drive out of the drive channel. (but for what you say you need, i'd say it's good enough) Decent drive comes from a decent pedal... Thats another story
you looking at R4300-R5000 for one. It might be overkill, but that is pretty much entry level for a decent all tube amp... See what the other guys have to say ?

Well kinda looking to replace the epi with a amp of more or less the same worth?
Just out of curiosity: Are you happy with your Squier tele? Because I have heard a lot of comment on it? I have a old affinity tele and I love it, actually more than the les paul...
But I don't really know much so thats just my opinion...
