All right, those of us that voted for Alan are about to get what we deserve in the form of this weeks challenge....

Are these competitions open to bass guitarists?
I was keen to enter one of these but not quite sure how to interpret finger picking on bass (seeing as I almost never use a pick/plectrum)

It's bass guitar AFAIC. Personally, I like the guys who take a guitaristic approach to bass. Entwhistle, Sheehan, et. al.

Your interpretation is fine, whether it be fingerpicked arpeggios (like parts of Iron Maiden's Rime of the Ancient Mariner), Jaco-style solo noodlings, a full blown fingerstyle everything like Jonas Hellborg's version of Little Wing or some of the Michael Manring stuff. The main thing is creating something which is going to appeal to the voters and can hold it's own against similar guitar pieces.

Ah...there's hope yet! I tried again last night...hit Sonar's record button and played, and played...by bar 1187 inspiration struck and the old fingers were reasonably loose. So I might have an something still....

I think I may actually play a bit better with my fingers than with a pick....you may just have sent me off in an entirely new style of playing Alan!

Just back after a week at the Pilanesberg and this is the challenge. ☹
Difficult to come up with the composition.
Tried the acoustic but the thing just doesn't respond, or are my fingers just not aligned to the music in me?

Good Challenge, easy for the recording noobs but difficult for the guitaring noobs.
