Headstock plate

Hi,

I there a proper name for the headstock plate cover thingy on the headstock of a guitar? (The thing marked in the green box). Can I buy custom made covers for it. I'd like to add a bit of bling to mine... ?

Yup, it's called a truss-rod cover.

You can buy a pickgaurd sheet for stew mac and cut out the shape you want

@Manfred - That is exactly the sort of thing. I was thinking a nice looking piece of rosewood or even maple for some contrast....

That second link has some pretty wild truss rod covers.

Or you can go to your local wood retailer and ask them for some offcuts and make one,its not that hard, chances are you wont find a rosewood offcut, but there is plenty of pretty wood out there.

So after checking out the great designs of Truss rod covers, I decided to make one myself and see what happens. I went to my local music shop (Music Sales Meyerton, great store with great prices) and they gave me a small cutoff of maple to test with. So I got my test piece and measured out the cover.

But elas, I was not carefull enough and 2 pieces broke and only one came out unscaved. So after having it 80% done I fitted it, and it fits fine. Now I just have to finish it.

Yeah, I'm gonna get some colour on it. I want to match the colour of the body.
I think I'll do an inlay on the second attempt. Maybe get some darker wood also.

The body is indian rosewood with a solid sitka spruce top. (antique natural they call it)...
