Hi all,
If you are intending to be at Keira's open mic night, which is doubling as a Jo'burg GFSA get together, then please PM me.
This applies if you are intending to play or if you just want to come along to meet other members. Please include numbers for husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, groupies, SPUDs (SPouse Under Duress) etc that will be accompanying you. This is so that Keira knows how many tables to reserve for GFSA members.
Also indicate if you wish to play or not. If you wish to play but don't have a suitable guitar then still indicate that you wish to play, it may be possible to find an instrument that you can use for a short set.
I will collate the information and forward it on to Keira.
I will be playing. I've played there before - Keira's organisation is good, and the audience were very friendly.
Hope to see you at Jonathan's

I'd love to but will have to take a raincheck. Miserable with the flu and got lots of work to do.
Enjoy it guys and gals ?

Hehehe - ja we moved here in early March. Nice place but we always get flak about it ?
Spyke
Nothing wrong though. Good couple of my mates grew up in The Park.
As for Jonathans tonight, I'm going to try and make it, can't promise though. Will that be a problem? Is it essential to book a table (for 1) or is there a bar that I could just slump over somewhere?
Needing directions again but I'll search for Keira's other thread.

HIs this a private functioon or are we all invited ?

Well it's an open mic session for a start. Anybody can walk in an ask to play.
In addition Keira has suggested that GFSA members in the area come along to meet each other.
If there's enough GFSAns and friends/partners then Keira will reserve a table.
So far we have...
- Keira
- Spyke (probably)
- Neps
- BluesAddict
- Me
with various friends and significant others.
Keira-WitherKay
thanks Bob for your effort much appreciated.... i will reserve a table for about 6 to 8 and see what transpires... lets hope for some late interest from the jhb crowd...
and anyone interested full directions are in my post about jonathan's open mic night 15th april...in the events section....
peace and light

Alright. 8.30 now, so Duberry is probably playing some obscure 14th century minstrel tune on an overdriven mandolin, berating the audience whilst the GFSAns shout random encouragements in nine-and-a-half part harmony. Cue Keira pretending not to know these gatecrashers ... ?
Let us know what happened!! By no later than six am, Bob. I know you're up early! 8)

Indeed! In addition to that, I have heard rumors that a certain drummer could be planning some strange experiment that involves him, a stage and a guitar. Are they allowed to do that?
Spyke
'Tis true... No one could escape the wrath of the almighty stage. Rubber arms were twisted left right and center, we all felt the pain.
Was a great evening and wonderful to meet some of the forumites. Big shout out to Keira for great organization and her role as hostess for the evening. Thanks to Bob for kindly allowing BluesAddict and myself to use his spare guitar. Thanks to all who showed up, great bunch.
Some great acts, I will be back, and next time I'll be prepared.

hi i posted a separate "Thank You" post to the guys who made it...... and i see Bob posted one too in the original invite ...so 3 posts floating around on this event .....
here is a copy of the post i posted in events to thank the guys that made it
hello all, and a big thanks from me to everyone who was present at our 1st gathering in jhb at Jonathan's
it was great to meet you all...and now least when i write mails or answer posts i will have a face to the name....
it was a great turn out and special thanks to Bob who helped me co ordinate the event online... and above all thanks again to Bob who brought his 2nd guitar along and loaned his taylor out to spyke and blues addict ... who originally just came to support but we twisted their arms to perform....
Bob played a great set and his fingerpicking style is sounding awesome ....yeah not to mention that great steel string acoustic tone....beautiful guitar ...( is that the Morgan???)
Neps then did the electric guitar thing and wowwed everyone with some great playing and vocals....so much so one forgot he's actually a drummer .. nice John mayer covers ...real crowd pleasers
we then had spyke play an instrumental piece ....on Bob's taylor
and then Blues addict didn't dissapoint with some awesome blues ....
and of course as hostess I opened the evening and broke the ice with one of my flamenco pieces from my new cd , and after the open mic session i played a short set
all in all with our 5 members of the guitar forum...there were also 6 other musicians who performed so all in all we had 11 artists all playeing 1 to 3 songs.... in one evening.... and in my books i'm ticking off this event as a great success.... some awesome talent and some great socialising.... and of course the venue kicked in with some shooter specials....
so i hope i can assume a good time was had by all.....
there will be another open mic evening at jonathan's on the 29th (wed) since due to elections next wed the venue will be closed....
and an added bonus for the 29th is that i have asked and confirmed with Ryan from the UK band Mann Friday ( who played splashy fen and are touring SA ct/durbs/then jhb) to do a guest set on 29th...so international artists at NO COUVERT CHARGE ...ryan won't perform with the band but solo ....
also a friend and fellow musician of mine Meri Ke (singer songwriter from cape area ) will be touring jhb the same time and will also be at this open mic....and play a set from her new cd. so 29th is star studded night ....
so anyone who missed the event or could not make it.... please diarise the 29th...and lets try do it again...
thanks again to the guys that made it .....
peace and light

You've never seen Keira play then? Hard to know where the drumming stops and the music starts.
nick
nice! Ive been wondering if the CT guys should organise something to this extent.
bob, nice looking guitar but.. crocs? ☹ ? ?
Neps
As Bob said, one is in awe trying to figure out where Keira's percussion and guitar playing come together.. It was amazing to hear what one can do with just the guitar body.
Nick, I think I'll forgive Bob for the crocks.. If you heard his set you'd have felt that you were back in the 60's - 70's listning to real music. FREE LOVE BABY, FREE LOVE!! :?
But it's back to the drawing board.. Next time I think there might be a bit of Hendrix in the set.. Purple Haze anyone?
