Hi All
Just a quick question. I had my acoustic returned to me last week. Its an ibanez EW AS20 or something of that sort. the guitar was in to have the top reworked. The guy that had done it is a guy from Dbn near scottsburgh somewhere. he has obviosly lowered the action and I see that the nut has been cut deeper. I also think that the bridge may have been lowered. The guitar plays great much better than before actually. Until i get to the 9th fret and upwards to the 15th. There is just dead notes there. no strings ringing. I am suer that the strings are of a lower gauge than before.
Is this cause the action is too low. is it maybe a truss rod adjustment that needs to be done. If I look into the body. i see a little allen key fitting there which I assume is to adjust the rod. Sould I give it a try. Or take it into a shop.
Take it back to the guy that did the work. Surely he played the instrument before completing the job and handing it back?
The truss rod is to adjust the curvature of the neck. This sounds like the same as adjusting the action but isn't. If you're not sure about what you're doing then leave the truss rod alone and take the guitar to somebody who does know what they're doing. Ask them to show you if you like, but I'd caution against just getting an allen key out and giving it a tweak.
I'm not saying that this definitely is not an issue that should be addressed by the truss rod, but since you've paid somebody good money to work on your instrument it's not you that should be put to further expense or take chances.
