If you think that is insane, you should check out david gilmour's rig.

There was a webpage that one of his sound engineers created a while back showing photo's and connections of all his pedals/amps, but i went searching for it again and the site was deleted!!!!

Although i found a site showing his gear, but none of the connections:

From what i could remember he used a pete cornish swithing system:

I guess gilmour was afraid that other guitar players could have the same tone he has and sound like him.
......well there is only one gilmour, and no one will ever sound like gilmour i suppose(guitar skills).

Don't worry, seems to confuse the crap out of Vai at times too. I suspect his tech is a bit more familiar with it than he is. Complex rig, but I've seen much worse.

i remember when vai hit the u.k on that tour and his backline was printed in guitar world. interesting point 'bout bodies and necks resonating with their own pitch...mmm :-\

Or he wanted to get everything to sound just like the records. But still it gets a bit silly as there at least two of every kind of pedal, and clearly he's not tweaking all those knobs himself.

Big acts can do this - they can afford to pay all those roadies.

I've seen those weird frets on an accoustic before. Can't remember the name though.

Actually, it's so no-one has to tweak knobs while he's playing. The custom-built Cornish switcher lets him program to switch between different chains of effects, using multiples of stomp boxes for different settings. It's a clever way to get the kind of programmability you usually only have with digital multi-effects, but using his choice of stomp boxes for the tones.
