The organisers are doing a very good job so far.
Its just the bands that are not staying true to their word, they could have started working on their album 3 months ago instead of doing it in a hurry.

Okay okay I take it back then ? Just still seems like a trend with the Coke shows though...

BFMV are an epic fail. They've officailly lost their South African fanbase, althought i suppose they dont really care.

I have been to all three thus far, starting with the Mettallica one, then moving to the Staind, 3 Doors down and Evanescence concert and finally last year with the Muse, Chris Cornell and Korn. I say without reservation that all 3 concerts were great and worth the ticket price. The organization was as good as any concerts I have attended overseas and for all three I was there for the start and left only when the last band left the stage. So I will unreservedly give the promoters 10 out of 10.
This year the lineup did not inspire me so for the first time I did not get tickets early, possibly the promoters can be faulted this year for the lineup they engaged but we don't know what goes on behind the scenes and seeing how BFMV just bale at the last moment <as did GNR two years ago>, possibly its the arrogance and lack of professionalism of the bands we should question rather than the local promoters.
I will always support the Coke Fest at least they try to get the better bands here and provide something for the local rock audience.
My 2 cents worth

True about the organizers I think. But the line up this year was very thin anyway compared to the past shows.

I am guessing, that contracts were not finalised or simply only handed out after the s.a agent woke up on Monday morning realising her/his mistake.
It's also not brain-surgery realising that it costs any band a HUGE amount of money to play in S.A, BUT if MUSE and KORN could play here last year I cant see why any other act could pull out for ANY reason whatsoever, unless it is bad admin work on our side.
The band's P.R office would also rather put out a statement like: "The band has to write songs to promote the new album" than: "Oh, but we never received a contract. Sorry we cant make the gig.*
*high five against the forehead of the s.a promoter*
Anybody wants to add a flying-kick pleasE?

They should bring Alterbridge to SA. I think they've got more fans here than they think

I second that, Alter Bridge is a pretty awesome band.

I'll add a running-kick-f#$%-slap to that.
This situation wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Add to that the fact that we're mere days away from a potentially volatile election. If I were an overseas band (who have been fed erroneous propaganda wrt SA) I'd want to keep my distance. It all looks too risky for them. But I don't blame them - I blame our local organizers who are just not up to the task of organizing a proper festival.

Each and every one of us are more hardcore than the members of Bullet - They're scared of SA, we LIVE here!
That said, I'm pretty sure Slipknot would come to SA - they know about us and they know they have fans here - albeit somewhat extremist fans... ?

hell the slipknot fans are off there heads here .....

I am wondering how many people actually went after this. anybody here end up going?

This Coke fest is getting flatter each year. They better fix it up next year. First goal is to get it back in Durban. Then add more metal.

Actually,, *cough* here is something I did not expect from me... :-[
I really did enjoy the bands this year. The venue was clean, close and no real hassle for me to get drinks. I hope they do it again at Riversands.
The bands were good quality (I know coz yer guitar musos you would disagree), but seeing these big acts come all the way here (it costs the bands a huge amount to come out of their way, would you go and play a gig in Tembisa for R3000 Where no one listens to yer music). ANYWAY...
These acts came with the nicest gear, great classic amps and nice nice guitar sounds. It seems there is a difference between the taste of the american vs brit scene. It was like a lesson for me when I went. I do not regret it. Some people hated Oasis, I can understand why, but I just simply enjoyed hearing nice screaming guitar tone. ?The S.A bands this year were amazing! I wish they played like around 7 amongst the international acts, because they probably would have kicked ass. ?
