Hi everyone...
We've been trying to find a decent institution to record the songs we've put our harts and souls in for the last few months, and every time we find something (or someone for that matter) they charge through the sky, and although we know that the quality depends on the cash, we're just not willing to pay R900 per song that sounds as if it has been recorded through a cellphone. We are wondering if someone with a reasonable amount of knowledge concerning recording and production would be willing to record us and maybe help us sort out a demo of some kind. We're more than willing to pay a reasonable price, we've got lots of time and we're really dedicated, so it would be greatly appreciated if ANYONE, regardless of experience, would help us out... We're situated in the Cape Town area, but we're willing to travel anywhere for a good product. We play jazzy-rock, and we're rather tight as well so no time would go wasted with sorting out timing issues and so forth. Thanks a lot... ?

...you might also do a search through the forum with terms like "studio" or "record", there's plenty of studio owning guys from the Cape here. Can't vouch for their prices though ?

...only reason for posting here is to reach as many readers as possible... ?

Then how many studios do you need?
Matta, Manfred Klose, deanBailey and Renesongs all have studios and are in the neighborhood. There's probably 10 others on the forum from Cape that aren't as active. My suggestion would be to PM them for starters, some of the pro's are on the forum but have no time to wade through all the posts. Yours may get missed.

Just on the other side of town.
Do you want to record acoustic drums as well?
I can only do guitars/bass/vocals at the moment.
You can also try dean bailey, he is in plumstead.

If you don't mind me asking ? ;
What's your band called, what gear do you use and when/where do you play again?
The rest I'll ask in a PM.

Darn it.. Cape Town.. If you were in JHB we could have had a chat.. R900 per song is cheap.. Depending on the quality that is.. But I hate it when people charge per song, cause that is so counter productive and it rushes you into choices you were never meant to make.
Rather book days in a studio, rehearse a lot. Get it tight, go in and record, know what you want!! When it comes to mixing you book more time.. at the same place, at a different place..
My turn to moan.. To say you charge per song is to be very counter productive.. A studio is a financial expenditure that has to make money as well.. So if they charge so much, I'll go in, spend 5 days on 1 song and only pay R900.. And does that include the mixing?
deanBailey
Yeah I charge per project which ends up being a big figure but worth it for the band in the long run because they'd spend a lot more if it was per day.
I also prefer to do EP's and LP's than demos but I have made exceptions to certain bands.
At the moment I'm extremely busy with 3 albums simultaneously so it's gonna be tough to take in another band. But anything is possible if the price is right ?.
