Recently, three members of my 8-piece funk/soul band and myself agreed to do a private party for a friends dad who was turning 70. He had suggestions for some rock cover tunes plus we could do other rock covers of our choice. But definitely with a pre-80's flavor. Then the singer dropped out over Covid concerns.
The bass player and I decided we could come up with some songs we could each sing. So I set about learning the setlist, one of the songs I picked for myself to also do vocals on was the 1978 Dire Straits tune, Sultans Of Swing.
While learning the guitar part……essentially all the fills and the solo's……I found the track on YouTube which had all the lead guitar taken out. Karaoke for guitar players.
Then the drummer dropped out……also over Covid. The gig was cancelled.
Since I had put in the time on the song I figured why not record it which turned into why not video myself recording it? Which turned into a nightmare of trying to sync the iPhone video to a track that has no click and no timecode…….had to nudge things manually.
Anyway…..it’s pretty laid back but I hope you like it. I am also a flatpicker by trade and fingerpicking is a real challenge for me……so it was a good exercise in that too.
I’m totally new to posting up video's like this……but if you enjoy it, please give it a Like at YouTube.
Thanks.
