Astonishingly high level of creativity and production throughout all the entries, I hear loads and loads of time invested - you've collectively surpassed any previous group of entries, in quantity and collective quality, that I can remember! Stoffeltoo - Cape Town Brandy Sunset RMS Master First multi guitar I ever entered. Enjoy and thanks for listening. Bluetone (ft Stoffeltoo) - Somebody Home I'd originally intended to insert a section in the middle of this song, but then came around to the idea of working out a kind of intro. It's a Pink Floyd song, so swirly, weird acoustic intros are OK, aren't they? In any case, I reimagined the first part of the song rather than the back end. Hope that's OK. I found a file of someone playing piano for it and then put guitar, vocals and some harmonica (because my wife bought me one for my birthday earlier this year) over it. UPDATE: I have included the very generous contribution of Stoffeltoo on brass. Meticus - Scylla The only available original is a live recording from a SaMo concert, we tried to make our cover more metal-like. I want to share a little home recording cover project I created together with 3 fellow musicians over the last weeks 😃 The original Song "Scylla" is an instrumental track of the medieval rock band Saltatio Mortis. The actual guitar for the recording was a 20 year old Fame Forum III, but unfortunately it's devoid of a strap, so for the video we used my Ibanez instead 😄 The guitar track was recorded clean and later modified in the Cakewalk DAW by the TH3 plug-in. Bass guitar and pipes were recorded live and the e-drums electronically, of course Guidtothepimmp (feat Norio & Bluetone) - Monster w/Friends Hiya fellers, Feels like forever. Herewith my entry. Special thanks to Norio and Bluetone for their contributions on lead guitar. No vocals from me as I couldn't write any lyrics that made sense. The riff that led to the re-imagination was from this tune Studmissile - Darkness Yeti - Brain Salad Here's my entry, inspired by Green Day's Brain Stew. I took the riff and first verse pretty much unchanged and wrote a couple of other verses with similar rhyming structures and of course added my own lead guitar. I also doubled the tempo under the riff and melody to give it a slightly more frenetic feeling. Klaasvakie - My Girl Here's my quick and dirty entry - quick play straight into my phone. Compression and volume adjustment in reaper. Basically took Nirvana's (amongst others) My girl and re-imagined it as something I could play for my baby daughter. Much lighter lyrics and some major chords sprinkled throughout. Bluetone maybe the "revisit a classic" theme does half the work for us

Could work, though I'd probably enjoy the debate around "What's a classic?" > x years + in the guitarworld top 500 list? 🍿

Do we either present entries (Song or Background) WITHOUT A SOLO then have to choose one other than our own to lay down a solo?

Or consider 2 iconic guitar solo's: Say, Comfortably Numb (First Solo) and Living on a Prayer and re-write or re-imagine one of them?

If I think about those two options, 1) seems the more difficult route because we have to hope enough people engage and put forward backing tracks even before the challenge begins. To make sure there are enough templates and ideas going around, my suggestion would be to take the second route, but to have more options to cover taste variances. So, like, five or ten backing tracks you rustle up and each contestant would have to pick one to work with?

Recently did a re-listen to Slippery When Wet - I jstill ust dig this Van Halen lite approach to a 'rock anthem' particularly the solo (2:47), which I'd actually want to learn verbatim (if I had a shreddy guitar, any hair and talent) 😸
