I've recently had a, let's say, back and forth with a individual regarding our favourite and what we consider the most impressive musical performances are on the tubes.
This had me thinking. I want to create a playlist that reeks of awe and inspiration that will blow away anyone that listens to it.
I will post my top 3 picks, or what's at the top of my head, and will ask others to do the same.
Let's dig up some musical gold. Some of you might have seen my suggestions, but here we go.
My number one spot has to go to the live performance of Snarky Puppy's Lingus.
At first the pure musicianship impressed me. A room of 30 odd musicians all playing a very complex song from memory and feel. Then the keys player shows off some amazing chops that literally left me emotionally tired after listening to it (it's a good tired).
After listening to this performance many a time I realised that between all the flashy soloing that the drumming was flawless and incredibly tasteful. Apparently the drummer's flight was delayed so he couldn't even rehearse beforehand. He's now one of my favourites,
As a bassist I just had to include Vulpeck Live a Madison playing Dean Town at 118 BPM, 9 BPM faster than the already blazing speed of 109. 109 might not sound that fast, but keep in mind that the bass is basically taking the lead on a funk groove that dances all over the neck.
My final entry is something that you have probably heard before. The hard hitting vocals from Corey Taylor, the efficient recording chops from the team under the direction of Mr Grohl and the amazing solo from Rick Nielson makes this one of my favourite performances to date.
Rick Nielson made this song for me. Dropping a pick mid solo and making it look like it was all part of the plan. So much chaos with such control.
