any boffs on yamaha accoustics? I recently purchased a yamaha fg512 and have been trying to establish its year of manufacture and if soundboard is spruce or cedar(looks like cedar but not certain)
made in Taiwan (beige colourd label), serial no. 90920778 as best I can see.
been looking on yamaha down load chart but more confused than ever,
help would be greatly appreciated,
many thanks.
Yamaha fg512
mickeymoose From https://www.guitarinsite.nl/serienummers-yamaha_eng.php - It's September in either 1979.1989.1999. The taiwan factory's numbering system allows for duplicate
I'd guess '99 - but '89 is also very possible.
Hi there, I'm hoping you could help me further, purchased this 12 string last week (yamaha fg 512)the previous owner had converted it to six string and cut off the unused machine heads.
what I thought would be an easy fix to restore it back to 12 has backfired on me. Nobody local seems to stock them.
I am hoping somebody some where may have some to sell.
It is a slothead with six each side, one piece.
many thanks in advance
mickeymoose Quite a few places sell generic machine heads for 12 strings - yamaha are especially good about stocking parts locally - so there's a decent chance to get some originals ones (but $$$).
Try sending a pick of the headstock + serial number to your local guitar store or try the Gear Junkie - they'll be happy to ship.
