Welllll, don't blame me - it was all @Bluetone 's idea!

You've gotta use the lick somewhere in your composition.

That's it. Any genre and any recording devices (Bluetone deserves a high five for thinking of us peeps using cellphone as our recording device). Make it ironic, make it funny, make it djent, make it bluesy. Darn, you can even sing it!

Here's the wiki example in E minor - the root note (e) is 5th fret on the B string.

📅 Entries Close: Monday, 14th March 2021, 23:59PM

📜Rules: Entries to be up to three (3) minutes in length. You must use "The Lick" (in any key) at least once your recording.

No genre restrictions or recording equipment restrictions. Use the interface, use the cellphone - it's all good.

P.s. Collaborations are encouraged!

⁉How To Enter: Record your entry, sign up or log in to SoundCloud, post it there. Then grab the SoundCloud link and reply here with the link pasted in your reply. **If possible, make your track public - that way I can make a playlist up.

**If you are doing a cover (yes, allowed!) and are concerned with copyright issues Or if you just prefer not to use soundcloud, @Norio has setup mp3 uploads, read more here

🏅Prizes: No prizes this month...but there is the fame and glory of winning a GuitarTalk Challenge. And the ever increasingly dubious distinction of selecting the next challenge topic. Not sure how one could ask for more!!!

Anyone can enter this competition. You just need a guitar and a phone. But any other recording equipment is fine too. Collaborations with fellow members or anyone you can recruit is encouraged!

Good luck and don't forget to share the meme's!

Had to get this done quickly because I have a lot to do in the next couple of weeks, so... Here we go:

I uploaded a WAV file this time, seems to improve things quite a bit.

All Tele, played a bassline and shifted it down an octave, downloaded a drum loop MP3 so the kit components weren't editable, but hey. As usual, all comments and crit welcome.

😂
Wow. Setting all sorts of entry speed records mate. And holy hell.. another playing master class. Great entry, well played 🍻

Bluetone Sweeeeeet - think you had this rhythm arrangement in your archive 😉

So I counted 3 "the lick"" and 3.5 "freddy king's" 🤣 You slipped "the lick" real slick too - damn, we gots work to do 👍

Haha, no - I came up with this progression the other day and still haven't found the middle 8 section I need to turn it into a song. And when it ran in my head I was like, hey, The Lick will fit that... 😆 Thanks, guys.

Also, beside providing proof, yesterday's browsing history may help for those who need drums:

Monday morning check-in - how's y'all doing?

I've the beginnings of a bass line and thanks to @Wizard a interface to record it with 👍️ Let's see what happens 🤷‍♂️

Yup, i may have some cheese for this wine.

Found a drum loop that piqued my interest. That sparked some bass groove.. (well.. as far as guitarists getting bass groove go).. and i have laid down a real simple rhythm guitar. Worked in "the lick".. so now i need to wrap my head around lead fills. All in all.. going ok methink. Not my normal fodder, but enjoying the change

Bluetone Sjoe. Really, really nice. I wouldn't complain about the drum track - in this instance it's just a tool after all (don't tell any of your drummer mates I said that).

Love the playing – super solid. Everything comes together so well. Think you may have have a stupendously wondrous decision in where you included 'The Lick.' As to how, the change in tone you used also makes The Lick work extra hard and adds an extra dimension to the piece overall.

The bar is set, once again, very high.

So I have the stirrings of an idea, and even sufficient time to possibly bring this one off. Of course, having just listened to @Bluetone's entry, I'm not even sure I should! 😆

    Well, hell. Why not?

studmissile I've mashed it up realllll good. Maybe beyond recognition - I think I've reversed the challenge and made it a challenge just to figure out where I used it 😅

For me, that's the beauty of these challenges, let the creative juices flow where they go.

    Hokay folks,

I am done fretting (mind the pun) over this track. It is what it is. I am now officially fresh out of ideas 🤣

So here is GTPs "The Lick". This round I went completely out of my comfort zone, It ended up with a lounge kinda vibe which surprised me somewhat. Largely clean guitar, tried to get a bass groove thing going, and all of that on top of a drum sample I picked up on Landr. I couldn't edit the drums much being theyre a sample.

Lead was a tele. At some point I realised I was on bridge pup, I really wanted to be on neck pup, so I switched then and for you attentive folk, you may note there is a tonal change to a sweeter lead tone. I couldn't be arsed about redoing the bridge piece again.. so it stays.. Hidden in the back is an electric organ filling some space, and my boy cameo'ed by shaking the pepper in the background.. Thanks Blue for the cool challenge!

guidothepimmp Nice one, another early bird!

I havn't done a thing since my first attempt a couple weekends ago - work and birthdays - but I'll have something for sunday. Likely gonna be half assed (as usual) but a foot tapper hopefully 😁
