Just wanted to get opinions on the Samick SG. Anyone know them or used one?

From my experience and what I know, Samick is not bad. I have never seen or played the SG though.

Thanks Dee. TMK Samick actually make the Epiphone range. I'm just not sure of the quality of a Samick at "the bottom end of the scale" ?

They're decent Graham. The copy models would be older ones ('80s). As you say, they ended up making Epiphone - so they are likely of a similar quality.

Picked her up in town tonight. No pics yet, but she is a beauty! The set neck and mahogany body help her ring like hells bells ?
She needs a little work (unless I do the road worn thing like Fender promotes), but all in all she's in good shape. Beautiful to play and set up perfectly. Pics soon.

Always amazes me how people don't bother giving a guitar a decent clean before trying to sell it. It's such an obvious thing to do.

Only due to lack of maintenance really. Cars are the same. Keep em clean and polished and there be no hassle. Ah the saddles have loosened up nicely after swimming in Q20 half the day. Back to work ?

Gonna need new saddles or complete bridge in a few months methinks as the saddles, although they still work ok, look like the lunar surface near the see of tranquilty and one of the intonation adjustment screws has been butchered. Got intonation right though, thanks due to Al again for the great articles on www.alanratcliffe.com ?

Also have a prob on the bound fingerboard. Looks like someone left the poor animal near a heater and the plastic binding got a little scarred, leaving frets 4,5 & 6 short, loose, nubless and rough-edged. My high e gets hooked on the fret ends when I do pulloffs.
I recall something about using a blob of epoxy or pratley steelset glue on the end of the frets which can be smoothed off to correct this. I'm not too keen to use a soldering iron to heat loose frets and pull them out with pliers as the fingerboard is still kinda dryish and I don't want to break bits off it when pulling the frets. Not to mention selecting, cutting, bending and glueing in new ones ???

At this point I think I need the advice of the surgeon general aka "Ratoconverter Extraordinaire" regarding the short, rough and loose hookers. Other than that, she is a beautiful axe and I really love playing her. The sustain is awesome and the harmonics and ringing tones on this baby are mind blowing. I have had to adapt to playing softly and gently to get the same sort of tone I got when playing my other axes harder.

Gonna have to save more for my GAS account now, as it will be only set necks for me from now on :rolleyes:
