Question on guitar amp speakers...

I have a Peavey Valveking 112 50w valve amp and I'm looking at replacing the 12" (16ohms) standard speaker. I found a great deal on a celestion greenback, but it's rated at 25w (16ohms). Will this work, or will the fact that the amp is rated at 50w be a problem?

You risk blowing the speaker when the amp pushes out anything over 25W. My advice would be to look around for a correctly rated speaker.

Big problem - of the speaker-blowing variety. Valve amps can actually put out anywhere up to 50% more power than their rating and while guitar speakers are often overrated too, guitar amps are the one time in audio you should go for speakers that are rated higher than your amp. The same rating will cut it most times, but the speaker will be more likely to blow than if you use an overrated one.

Try a Celestion Vintage 30. Sounds great in a Valveking IMO (heard one with a V30 before). I think it's rated at 60W. http://professional.celestion.com/guitar/products/classic/spec.asp?ID=4

Speak to Music Connection. Probably your best bet. Last I heard they were between R1500 - R2000.
