I was going through a bunch of recorded idea's (riffs/grooves) this week and wondered how other peeps go about recording/storing their idea's/compositions? I know from experience that I will not recall the idea's after the muse strikes - for me, there's always little inflections of groove or teeny bends that get lost in the remembering.
I've used a cellphone (audio only) for ages, though, more than often, I struggled to recall how I did what I did. A recording interface is useful, but the hassle of getting plugged in and setup for a quick 3min recording was always a pain - the recording setup is also the media centre - so there's always conflicts. Though, when using a interface I'd also typically not recall how I did what I did.
For around 18mths, I've been using the video on the cellphone and it works far better (for me, I'm a monkey see, monkey do type) for preserving idea's. There's something to seeing yourself play something - I can tell if I was feeling a groove or if I was hacking trying to find something I liked. It's like having a audience without the feeling of being stared at 😸 ?
Though it makes me wonder, would a iPad + iRig let me record decent audio (the cellphone is crappy) with a video? The video is for me only, mainly coz' I'm almost always in my 'fat pants' 😃
