So Mezerg released this video on Wednesday featuring a watermelon and spanspek keyboard.
And everyone lost their minds 😸 - It's funky and fun...but something bothered me so I looked into it (I'm no fun).
It's a Playtron midi controller to use with yer DAW/midi gear.
Works on conductivity, if it's conductive you can use it as a trigger. Likely just a open/close signal likely with some kinda threshold setting for dialing out false triggers.
There's banana piano's and all sorts of things peeps have come up with.
Now I'm gonna get grumpy...I believe there's no f****ing way he recorded that live (as shown in the video). Perhaps he did the drums live, but not the keys - because I don't see a ground wire attached to him (necessary to complete the conductive circuit) AND while he's playing a slice of spanspek leans up against a slice of watermelon (both wired up) and there's no false triggers or whoopsy moments that midi just loves to throw in there to screw with your performance., Basically it's just too tight and clean (heh).
But it makes for a great visual!
