German/medieval bagpipe

Hi! I'm Meticus from Nuremberg in Germany. About 8 weeks ago I started learning to play the German bagpipe (also known as medieval bagpipe). I document my progress on a YouTube channel to get advice and feedback from experienced musicians. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXI0G-IlMZ5WrC35wvVSDFw I'm not a professional musician, just playing for fun and in private settings. Before my bagpipe I already learned to play the guitar (acoustic), recorder and a little bit accordion. All on amateur level, but I have a lot of fun making music. In the near future I also want to revive my guitar playing because the acoustic guitar harmonizes very well together with the medieval bagpipe. Maybe I will get an electric guitar as well to experiment a little. I want to connect with other hobby musicians all over the world to exchange experience, get new input and inspiration or share tunes to play :-) Is anyone here playing the German bagpipe (or other kinds of bagpipe) or recorder? How well known is that kind of bagpipe? Best wishes Meticus :-)

Meticus Fair enough. I suppose that if these are frequently used to play with guitars and other instruments they must be tuned to 440 (interesting about the beating though).
I know that hiland pipes have to do gymnastics to play with an orchestra... I believe they tune their A somewhere between Bb and B.

I suppose most professional German bagpipe players have at least two chanters for their favorite pipes. One tuned perfectly for the drone for solo playing on medieval markets. And one tempered to play together with other instruments (in that case the drone is muted anyway).

Any Witcher fans here?
There is currently a "lockdown light" in Germany, so I fled to Temeria and played in a small tavern in Velen, south of Novigrad. As payment I got a Sodden mead and a handful of raspberries 🤣

No synthetic instruments this time, I played the bagpipe, acoustic guitar and davul myself.

Keep cool and stay healthy!

Meticus Read the (excellent) books - wish I could read them in original language (polish, IIRC?), The series is surprisingly good, given how hollywood messes things up.

Henry Cavell is legit as Geralt! But that bard...hmm, I'd toss at brick at him rather than a coin 😸

Nice work on the cover - trying out some green screening?

In other news, SA opened its borders to intl visitors, escape the 'rona and winter =D

I only read one book so far (The last Wish), mostly played the games. The series is indeed very good, I hope it will run for a long time 😀

Thanks. Yes, I'm surprised how good that worked. I actually know very little of video editing 😃 But it was quite easy. Guess I will make more such projects in future, it's a lot of fun and there are endless possibilities.

Last weekend I was on a bagpipers event, that was very cool after all the months of playing alone at home.
Between 20 and 30 musicians from beginner to expert, with bagpipes, davuls and string instruments. It makes an epic sound hearing lots of bagpipes playing together! :-D

I actually wanted to share a photo with all pipes, drums and other instruments, but I cannot. There are not upload buttons and drag & drop doesn't work. Add that to my technical issue list :-D

Now that I found a way to avoid my technical problems, here is the picture I wanted to share in the previous post 😀
