If you don't reply "S&M" then you're wrong ?
Yes, sure, all those songs were originally released on earlier albums (save for, I think, "No Leaf Clover") but if you had to pick one album of their's to take with you onto an island (or whatever) what would it be?
For me, it's definitely "S&M" so you can imagine my excitement when I found my copy again after a few months of not knowing where the heck it was ?

Death Magnetic! Maybe because I am listening to it with fresh musicians ears and a deaper understanding of what they are doing but it is my current "best". (Maybe I should go back and listen to some of the older albums as well)

Ooooh! tough one. I think it depends on what your mood is on the particular day. Thing is with them, it's varied. Kill 'em All,Ride the Lightning & Master of Puppets for in your face thrash/speed metal. ( just maybe ..And justice for all) The Black Album, Load & Re load for Hard Rock with a Country/Bluesy tinge [Load & Reload]. Death Magnetic is parallel with AJFA as far as I am concerned.
So...I'd say the black album as this was the one where they hit their peak and finally got classified as "Rock Gods". Also, with songs like Nothing Else Matters & the first Unforgiven, they managed to get the fairer sex interested in their music.

Hrm... tough one. My favourite would probably be either Master of Puppets (BATTERY!!!!!) or Load (BUT IT"S NOT METAL!!! - i know ? )
I love the old stuff coz it reminds me of when i first started playing guitar and the fun i had playing stuff from Kill em all right through to Black album. That said, Load and Reload are the albums I listen to the most. While they are quite a departure from the Metallica of old, I honestly think it's their best work lyrically and musically and despite not being metal, they're actually both pretty "heavy" albums. Big Grooves, Big tone, nice melodic solos. What more could you want?
I don't own St Anger or Death Magnetic. To me those albums don't exist. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but I just can't. I think they're terrible.

Iam with Goose on this one....
Black is in my top 10 list of albums ever...
St Anger and Death Magnetic are not bad but they're not good either... :-\

Black...
In S&M it seemed like they were trying too hard. Grappling for a grip on something that they felt was slipping out of their grasp.

Black album and garage inc.
Explorerlover
Oh yes..Garage Inc.I love that one too. Really opens your eyes to the bands that are covered on the album like King Diamond and the like. My fav on that one is The Prince
Dirk
Not a big fan, but their guitarist is insane!!
Explorerlover
Hetfield or Hammett?
inflames
I would have to go with "Ride the Lightning", but Black would be the most famous of all the albums.

I think its Kirk Hammet... The guy with the long curley black hair?
Explorerlover
That would be him.... I think Hetfield is the better guitarist ?

You just like him coz of his explorer ?

Black album is their masterpiece. Saying it is their best is subjective. I think it's the best at least.
