Guitar tech in Durban

I read on the Tonerider website that they're distributed here by theGuitarshop in Durbs. I exchanged some e-mails with him today and in one of those he said he was building a guitar, so I guess he's a pro luthier. No good or bad experiences with him though, dunno. <robert.theguitarshop@gmail.com>

There is a guy named Gary Gibb at the Davenport centre (he's in the flats upstairs), he's good, been sending my guitars there for some time now. You can get his number from Glenwood Villiage Music (previously Musikland).

I've met the tonerider dude and been to his workshop. quite interesting really, (both the luthier and workshop) played a tele style guitar he made, but don't know if i would use him.

There's also a guy by the name of Shawn 'o Neill in Cowies Hill. He also is a pro luthier and does work for Barry Thomson, Dan Patlansky and John Ellis.

There is also Kerry Callaghan, he has been building custom guitars since the late 70's. He has built guitars for Neil Solomon{The Passengers}, The Blarney Brothers , Garth Potterton {?} from Mean Mr Mustard. He also does a lot of the Fender setups if they dont want to send the guitar back to Capetown. His number is 031 7084968

Just to let ya'll know i sent it to Gary Gibb and he did an outstanding job. Action, intonation is great and it wasn't expensive at all.

As soon as i drop the saddles it starts to choke up the neck. And it doesn't matter how much i bow the neck.

How did you go about doing it? I tried by guess work and it very obviously didnt work. Then I got the Specs for my guitar online and adjusted it accordingly. It made a huge difference.

Gary is cool. I have also played a guitar Shawn worked on. It is like a cheap no name brand acoustic but it now sounds and feels like a top of the range animal.

Marshall Music should be able to help you get in touch with him. They also do setups as well in store iirc. need to get my strat fixed...
