Hehheh, yup! Watched that clip/interview many times! Was having a conversation with some jazzcats after we all bailed from a chaotic jam (lotsa noobie muso's on drums/percussion) and we were all saying, it doesn't matter what rhythm it is (4/4, 7/8, 13/12, etc) we just need to know where the ONE is and we'll figure it out from there...

That said, my little clip has the accent on the 1st and... :face_with_rolling_eyes:

More than a hint of James Brown with this! Also impressed, I got a bit of Pbass sound when listening and it was a Jazz Bass, had a cool funky sound to it - almost like flat wounds, or well played in strings?.

Unlike my attempts there was space for the rest of the band ?

Thanks - it's the (t)rusty ol' zoom b2 rocking out a envelope filter - out of the bunch of pedals/plugin's I've tried - I keep coming back to it. One day, when I upgrade to the B1on/B3, I'm hoping it's even better on those.

Two clips at 106bpm, one solo and one w/drums. They both loop nicely in a daw. Couldn't quite get the groove nailed though - tried some guitar, but Ableton started glitching so I gave it a break before I broke something ?

Not much of a bass player personally so went straight for the full band.

V8 Thanks! This was either the neck pickup solo or both pickups in series (these get much closer to a P-bass tone) and a set of 2 year old Labella 45-105 flats, which sound and feel completely different from other flats I've tried- high tension, bright but no finger noise, and really good thump.

What I've noticed in a band/jam situation, on bass - I'll generally underplay and if I'm playing solo I'll overdo it. I reckon most of funk-i-ness comes from the interplay between all the moving parts.

It's a iterative process for me when recording - I'll often go back and change up bits - tedious sometimes and I all too often lose that lit' bit of magic (I thought) I had.
