Does anyone want to share a comment on what you think of ESP? I kind of like the strat type body, and when plugged into a Marshall, sounds quite good.

I have a standard series Eclipse CTM1. Mahogany body with maple top and ebony fretboard. It's got the EMG81 & 60 Combo and it kills. I'll almost go so far as to say it's on par with Gibson's Custom LP's [awaiting the flak/flames etc etc ?] . Really nicely built and more of a readymade hot rodded LP.... also cheaper than the entry level Gibson LP.

My next guitar will be the ESP Alexi. I have played on the guitar and is amazing.
ESP has always in the past impressed me.

ESP are cool guitars and everything but to me they've always been a bit too perfectly machined, it's kinda a cold feeling like a guitar with no real character to it. Also I've always looked at them as being everything that Jackson wishes it could be. Just my opinion though, so don't start ragging on me.

That's my view on PRS. Played on the proper Tremonti PRS at Music Connection...really left me thinking , "why and what for?" especially with the R 32K pricetag...but then again different strokes

to me ESP has a certain sound, kind of a smooth mid range sound, which is cool if you want your guitar sound like the guys from inflames(smoothing sounding.)

I'd prefer a jackson, because the guitar has a lot of soul, maby it's just because i like old school metal.

But for modern metal i'd say an ESP would do the job, but then again so does Jackson and Dean guitars.....

P.S: Has anyone ever had a spin on the "Dean from Hell", probably the most comfortable metal guitar i have ever played on!!!

I agree with the "clinical feel". It's like someone took enough 1's and 0's that equal to a guitar and threw it in a guitar making machine.

Their tones are pretty cool. A friend of mine had the Alexi model, he took it back because it just couldn't stay put. Action kept loosening (even after a couple setups).

But personally I hate cutaways on V's, it spoils the symmetry hehe

EDIT: ??? @ dean guitars. lol I really don't like them because they seem kinda...redneck ? And I never thought I'd judge a guitar on how it looks.

A few of the ESPs seem quite nice. Nothing amazing, but they have some decent hardtails.

@ Dean - I own a Dean. Not the usual spiky "yet another guitar from hell" Dimebag sig though. It's a Sarasota electric 12-string:

Wooah, I'd never say that was a Dean guitar. I'd be really interested to hear how that sounds.

Stock, a bit like the Gibby 12s - think Jimmy Page live 12-string electric sound. Not quite as much "air" as you would expect from the hollow design, but then it's an LP size body. Pickups were way too hot for a 12, so I popped in a set of GFS Retrotron Memphis, and while I was busy, CTS pots and Switchcraft switch and socket (If I have to wire an archtop I want to do everything in one go and know I don't have to go in there again for the next 10 years) and it now gets more of a Ric Jangle.

But yeah, a very surprising guitar for Dean - not a spike in sight..

I have never owned a Dean nor an ESP as I have always felt that they cater more for the heavy player. As my personal style os more classic rock and country I stayed away from them.
The few ESP's I have played was really impressive, keeping in mind that it was the higher end models - 20k+. They compare very well with Gibson, I actually think they are better.
(I own a Gibson LP so I feel the comment is fair)

When looking to buy that type of guitar I'll rather buy a Schecter, personal prefferance.

When I found this (and I hope it works) i know very little about ESP guitars. But this Korean kid (calls himself 'FUNTWO") and his ESP earned my respect
for both, do yourself a favour and go listen. And while you're at "youtube", listen to his version of "Canon Rock". Beyond Awesome! If this is an old post, sorry.

With all due respect, I'm sure Carlos Santana (arguably the warmest tone ever) would completely disagree, and so would quite a few great PRS guitarists. But like you say, and I fully agree..... Different strokes...!
