Does anyone know of places around Joburg where one can listen to some good quality Blues or Rock Bands? You know, the kind of place where you can just sit back, have a nice cold one and enjoy.. I'm not talking bout those "open stage, anyone can play" kind of places.
I normally visit Dan Patlansky's gigs when he's in Joburg, and must say, I love it.

Well there is the normal Blues Room, Roxys, Rock Bar, Back2Basix.. The standard ones.. 44 Stanley is also quite lekker. They do cater for AfroJazz a bit more.. But I've heard some awesome bands there. (but these are all JHB based) Cape Town I'm not too sure about apart from the standard places.. But I havn't been in the CT scene for a while now.
In JHB for an out of the way place that has some interesting acts and a nice dark, dodgy feel you cant go wrong with The Bo in Auckland Park.

Well in CT there's Westend that has a few good jazz bands occasionally and also swingers, which have an amazing open jam night on mondays. For blues you could always try Fogeys, the boulevard blues band plays there quite often and they're very good.
