Hey guys and gals.

I came accross a website of a Cape Town based supplier of music instruments, accessories etc.
http://www.terryd.co.za

Anyone know them? Anyone worked with or ordered from them? From what I see, they mostly deal with wholesale distribution to shops (?) but do sell to the public as well, via the website. Prices are pretty decent I think.

2nd question - they have 'Maxwell' guitars on the site at ridiculous prices. One (only) review what I dug up on the net about Maxwell guitars is as follows:
"Hi guys,i was wondering if anyone here has ever heard of a 'Maxwell' brand guitar? The reason i ask is i bought a whole bunch of musical gear very very cheap and the Maxwell was included.I have looked all over trying to verify even the existence of a Maxwell brand,to no avail. The guitar is one of the sweetest toned guitars i ever played, and it stands to reason it should be known by someone out there! It has three chrome top pickups and the neck is so sweet and very easy playing too.If anyone has any info about the brand,i would appreciate if you could let me know. Thanks!" https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=690475

Apparently they are manufactured in China, specifically for the South African market? Anyone know the brand? Quality?

That is all.

Fanx!

wern101 Terryd is 100% legit - I've been to the warehouse, great bunch of peeps!

They do sell direct and will post. Though they OFTEN run out of stock, particularly of parts (pots, pickup rings, screws, etc...) so do check before ordering. Takes 2-3mths for them to get a new shipment in. The gear junkie keeps stock of many of their smaller bits if you can't find stock at Terryd. Prices on parts are about as good as you'll find locally - especially the alpha pots.

Not sure where Maxwell comes from, likely China. I've seen a few acoustics and they are all what you'd expect to get for the $. I'd sooner spend my $ on a 2nd hand Cort or similar. Though I havn't seen any electrics.

I have bought pickguards, knobs etc from them for various partscaster builds, they generally stock cheap and cheerfull parts but they do the job well. if i was buying a part for my Fender however id rather stick to the pure vintage stuff. saying that they are legit and can purchase parts from them without stressing.

Regarding the Maxwell, i do think, and i might stand corrected, that terry distributors are the sole importer for maxwell, i did a setup on one of their "P Basses" Recently and my opinion is if set up well it is a fine student guitar, not something i would buy but that's just me.

I have used them for a few things, the most recent being a new set of machine heads for my 1986 Ibanez Lonestar, Dreadnought Acoustic. They had the exact replacement units for a really good price.

My brother makes instruments from recycled bits and pieces and buys most of his guitar specific parts from them as well.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the feedback. So nice to have this forum to verify suppliers.

      Thanks again!
