Gibson "Eye Guitar" - Limited run 2009

AlanRatcliffe

The latest from the Gibson "We've lost the plot" department -the Gibson "Eye Guitar":

I think it should be the "Hurts my Eyes Guitar". ??? Are they trying to get the Guitar Hero crowd to buy "real" guitars now?

nick

??? looks like a SG with a bit of a strat blended in.

no. just no ☹

AlanRatcliffe

Yeah - I could deal with that but the red pickups? And the Elvis trouser pickguard? ???

dee

Wow. I'm amazed they did not put the "hockey stick" headstock on it...

And yet, it willl probably sell out completely.

doc-phil

I actually think this guitar would look decent if they took off that hideous pick guard and changed those pickups.

It kinda has an ibanez vibe going there in the horns...but still, i'd never buy it.

It's just silly ...

Alan omitted the key detail. This is one of the models in Gibson's 2009 "limited run" series. (Along with the Holy Explorer and the Tribal V).

You are supposed to say "Gadzooks! This is one of Gibson's 2009 limited run. Thus they will only make a small number of them and never make them again. Thus I must spend lots of GAS-coupons on one of these, hermetically seal the case, stick it in the vault and wait for the price to go up! Did I say "one of these?" Hell no! I'll buy the whole limited run. This is a better investment than AIG stock."

Come on now! They only made 300 of the reverse flying V model (no... I am not making this up as I go along) and so those are going to be worth a fortune one day. Aren't they?

inflames

Gibson must be sponsoring Ugly Betty with this guitar ?

Ray

What's wrong with it?

Explorerlover

That's probably the ugliest thing I've seen other than the reverse explorer...Thank goodness it's a limited run

Heath

would be better in black and white IMO .

Amazing Alan, before I read this post, it's exactly what I thought of "Elvis Trousers"
Would be a more suitable name Gibson Elvis Trouser, a Gibson GET. Make sure you get the RED one!

Keira-WitherKay

i'm reading these comments of jest and shock and my mind flashed back to i wonder when no one had seen a strat before what the classical big band musicians thought ... i can just immagine their comments... "what no f holes" and "those thin sounding pick ups!" and "whats the deal with all the machine heads on one side"... "a shape like that will never sell!"

ok so next year the new rock/indie gods of the day will use a gibson eye guitar and then they will be the most sought after guitar on the planet.....

but yeah ok the truth is i also think it looks like pawn shop special .... and would never even consider one... heheheh

peace and light

Looking at it now again, I don't think the design is that bad. Just the choice of finishes might be a bit "unique"

themanthatwalks

why is it called the eye-guitar???

AlanRatcliffe

eye-sore? ?

Ray

Nah, I've looked again and I cant see anything really wrong with it. Help. Or dont you okes like Gibson?

I think when people hear Gibson, they think Les Paul's, SG's and hollowbodies, not Superstrats! Anything different is perceived as, well, wrong....
