The most worthwhile mod/upgrade you've ever done

Hey folks,

I recently decided to replace the pups on my PRS SE Tremonti. I play mostly blues and was not liking the done of the PRS, it was lacking somethilng. That being said, I love the PRS and did not want another guitar. I was also in the mood to play some metal at that point and for some reason decided to go for an active EMG 81/85 set. I got a good deal and ended up getting the KFK set, that includes a PA2 switch, which is a pre-amp circuit on a switch.
I can honestly say that it was the best upgrade I've ever done. The PA2 works great to add sustain. The tones produced by the pups are great, even for blues and cleans.

So what is the most worthwhile upgrade you have ever done on a guitar?

After my bassing two years, I've finally decided I'm not a beeg fan of active setups (on a bass). I do like it for shreddy guitars - harmonics and sustain are that much easier and distinct,

Good question, there's a few - though 2 are setup/maintenance related.

My best mod : On a passive strat, treble bleed on the volume. When you roll off volume you don't loose all the treble (normally you get a muddy mess when rolling off the volume). It's a similar effect to the 50's wiring on a LP style guitar.

Setup : Pickup height and rolling the fret edges.

Agree with V8. Adjusting pickup heights (mostly lowered) to alter their (guitar's?) sound profile, and if available, adjust individual polepieces to balance strings/improve tone balance. Amazing what happens here.

Apart from spending some time on lowering and improving the action as well.

Not upgrades as such, but not factory stock either.
