Following up on Singemonkey's Graeme Hayward article last week, we're delving somewhat deeper into South African guitar making.
Rudi Bower created a excellent "hermeneutic" (method or theory of interpretation) critique of luthiery with specific reference to certain South African guitar builders.

This detailed and carefully crafted document covers the history of guitar luthiery (local and international), an overview of international luthiers and then interviews with local luthiers.
Perhaps, of most interest to us, the local luthiers were interviewed by the author and the interviews are of a real depth and detail that one will rarely see.
You'll find interviews with Marc Maingard, Mervyn Davis and Hans van den Berg, amongst others.
Hope you enjoy this read as much as we did!
