I've just realised that I don't spend enough money on guitar. I don't experiment enough.

With my fish hobby, I buy all sorts of things (almost always second hand or at great prices) but, with guitar, I'm always skimping and denying myself the pleasure.

stupid

I get where it comes from... we didn't have much money growing up so it was a good thing to deny yourself certain pleasures. But now I'm a grown-ass man and I have my own (decent) income to spend. Why am I denying myself?

Anyone else on here feeling that way? Maybe it's time we set aside a monthly budget and take care of ourselves.

PS: Look — I'm a cheap guy. I'll still be hunting the bargain from the guy emigrating or the dude whose appliances all got fried by Eskom's power surge so he's selling everything to fund the fixes. But at least I'll still be experimenting and growing and — who knows — maybe find that sweet spot one day ? How about you?

I've gone through a (few) experimentation phases - now busy with another 'clear the decks' phase. I'm down to the 'keepers' : 1xstrat, 1xPbass, 1xacoustic, 1xtravel acoustic. The rest can go without regrets.

It's a cycle, luckily the majority of my experimentation has been 2nd hand so it hasn't really cost me anything (time aside).

The budgeting (now) is easy - something goes out, then something comes in. Unless it's a crazy good deal or I have a actual need (e.g. gig).

Me.. I Love Spoiling myself.. But I'm A cheap Ba-something.. hence all my DIY guitars..
then again also I love Fiddling .. Hence all the DIY guitars..

Unfortunately (Probably more fortunately) for me I went and decided to get hitched..so need to save big time.. so no more spending on ANYTHING fun till that's done with..

But I do believe its a good thing to have many hobbies and interests, and you should spoil yourself regularly doing them.
