How does it work?

You have 24 hours to record your best (ORIGINAL) riff/lick/hook on one guitar only.

You can record on a phone, on a Mac, in your studio, whatever.

Electric, acoustic, bass, ukelele, whatever.

Lead, rhythm, melody, whatever.

As SOON as your riff is ready...

  1. Upload it to your account on SoundCloud. Name it like: 24-Hour Riff Challenge - <Theme> - GuitarTalk.co.za
  2. Add a link to THIS discussion in the SoundCloud description.
  3. Reply here with the SoundCloud link.
  4. Voting starts as soon as the first post is in. Likes on your post count as votes in the competition.

Voters can win too.

All voters get entered into a (random) draw to win a prize as well. You only have 24-hours to vote. And all you do to vote is click "like" on the entry you like best on the forum. (Not on SoundCloud, although you're welcome to like there too!)

RULES:

  • 24 hours
  • 1 instrument (guitar/bass/ukelele/etc)
  • 1 awesome riff
  • Original riffs ONLY

    Can we have a simple drum track? Riffage makes a lot more sense with a underlying groove.

    Is there a theme or just any ol' riff goes?

      1. No drums. This is to open up entries to ANYONE with a guitar, a phone and 5 minutes.

        @NorioDS - Hmm, I suspect I've guessed the theme... ?

        Had a rocking riff up me sleeve...but there's a few lurking in the dusty V8 archive that I reckon will work.

        But no drums...Hmmmpfff, I'm REALLY gonna have to feel the groove then.

        I would have loved to enter for the first time in a long while. Unfortunately I am not in SA on the date.

        V8 Hahaha! Well then maybe I need to change the first challenge's theme ?

        Hasie No worries, there will be more! I'd like to automate most of these competitions so we can easily run a few every single month. But first I need to make sure people will enter in the first place ?

              V8 As for the groove, nothing stopping you from having a click-track or drum-track in your ears while you jam your riff. Just make sure the rhythm track doesn't make it into your final entry.
