Two things I took away from the article :
“We found out that letters cue the fastest responses compared to diagrams and pictures,”
“The point of that was that the guitarists were influenced by the visual representation of the chords, and they couldn’t turn it off”
When I'm jamming with someone, I usually ask them to shout out key/chords (in hope that I know em) - but when I'm learning something new I really benefit from seeing the diagrammed shape on the fretboard.
I only resort to a picture/video demo of the actual fingers in chord shape if I cannot fathom how they transitioned from one shape to another - occasionally it takes a un-intuitive change to fingering to make some things possible.
