Around 2010, when we had the world cup in SA, I started listening to K'naan's Troubador album. He's the guy who did the "waving flag" song. (The original song is better than the World Cup version.)
And I've always been a bit of a rap fan so I really liked it.
There's something particularly special about the stuff K'naan writes. It's all about Africa and the "real hood". He's from Somalia, so he writes about war, poverty, and "real" issues like that.
I love his "Troubador" album and this particular song, "If Rap Gets Jealous". It seems to be saying: Maybe rap can't handle K'naan coz he's writing about such heavy stuff and the current hip-hop scene is all about surface crap.
And the guitar in that song is so much fun to listen to. I was genuinely surprised at how good it is. The solo is particularly tasty.
Well, today, 7 years later, I realised that it's probably got something to do with Kirk Hammett playing on the track! What?! Yep, for realz. I added the Album to my library and loaded up this song and saw "feat. Kirk Hammett". Dunno how I missed it before coz, if you listen to the song, you can definitely hear Kirk's style.
Enjoy! (Screaming solo starts around 2:14 but there's lots of tasty noodling until then.)
