I have a beautiful sounding Albion TCT50 head and 4X12 cab. Running on 33% it still gets the missus and the neighbors riled when I crank it. Solution? I formed a band to take it outdoors and on stage. It is heavy no doubt and due to its bulk it is now residing in the studio (aka buitekamer) and I am now using a Marshall JTM60 with low gain and a mike to preserve the clean tone.
It is always a challenge finding space for cranking an amp, especially a tube, to that sweet headroom spot. Solution? Pedal board and effects with something like a tube screamer if the tone is more metal and heavy rock.
My needs are simple as I primarily play rhythm, therefore the clean tone but when it gets to fills and my limited lead riffs, I use OD and Blues distortion for the added effect over the cleans.
Out rooms also work well to separate the noise from the house if you have that luxury.
Last option off course is a modelling amp of which there are many brands with specific preferences and tastes to get that spicy tone of choice.
