Hello from Cape Town !

I am glad to find that there is a S. African guitarists forum, and quite an active one, it looks like.
I am curious to see what's going on here, but honestly right now I am looking for a set Toneriders, TRS1, Pure Vintage.
I am playing mostly lead, Fender Strat, mostly clean, AC30 valves, The Shadows type of sound. (Not easy)
I have a band and I have been playing monthly at The Shadows Club of SA, in Cape Town, since 2012.
The Club exists and has performed un-interrupted since 2006, every second Tuesday of the month, it has a nice local following.
There are on average 3 bands performing every time, at present we are hosted by the Edgemead Bowling Club, free entrance, 20h00-22h30.
We strive to keep alive that kind of music, celebrate the Band That Has Started A Thousand Bands.
We encourage and nurture new talent as well, players as young as 10-11, 16 yrs olds f.e., guest bands/players, etc.
If you are in Cape Town, pop in please, everybody welcome, decent family/community atmosphere, entrance free, good quality show.

welcome.. seems the Edgemead Bowling Club is doing more to promote live bands in cape town than any of the pubs or other gig venues!

i know of other bands that play there regularly.

Hope you do stick around for longer than finding a set of pups ? There are a few JHB Shadows Club members here, feel free to post your events in the events section on the forum.

Tonerider pups (esp single coils) are tricky to find since the local distributor stopped trading (was late 2014 if I recall correctly) - either it's on the 2nd hand market or direct import from the UK.

There might be a third option though - I've read that the Fender Classic Vibe pickups were toneriders (pickup models depends on the CV model) : http://www.strat-talk.com/threads/classic-vibe-using-tonerider-pickups.23969/. Apparently the 60's CV Strat has the vintage pups.

If you chat to the good fellows at Paul Bothners (try Ollie in Claremont), they were able to source "warranty replacement" parts at around R600/ea - imported from Fender europe. Or you could try and find a set 2nd hand, people seem to swop out the pups on CV's (no idea why!)

of which I wasn't aware, still learning how to use this site.
Not that I am ignoring anybody.
As I've already posted fortunately I got a set of Pure Vintage pups, thru this forum.
I am very happy with my new sound.
If there are Shadows lovers feel free to ask me about how to get your sound and what really matters.

Thank you Stephen for your reply, of which I was not aware, sorry about that.
Indeed, the Edgemead Bowling Club is a great venue, very well kept, great bunch of people, accomodating, welcoming, good prices at the bar, big enough parking inside
The stage is big enough, the sound is good, (they have carpets on the floor, plus a thick curtain on the wall behind the stage).
The Shadows Club takes place every second Tuesday of the month, exception is Wed 14th of February, Valentine's day, we changed it to allow our followers and guests to celebrate it in style, with the old vintage music of the 50's and 60's of The Shadows and Cliff Richard. We do all those great instrumentals, and sing as well, with normally 3 bands per evening. This music will never die, and we play it hot, best vintage sound and equipment we can muster.
The hours are 20h00-22h30, but sometimes there there is much to go through and then we start earlier at 19.30.
