Warwick Streamer BO 1984

Hey all

New to the forum. I've been "dabbling" in bass guitar for a while now, but am looking to get into it a bit more.

I managed to pick up a Warwick Streamer "Bolt-on" neck on the pre-owned market. It was made in 1984. Its the German made Warwick. The guitar is in pristine condition.

Any ideas of what the rand value might be on this bass?

Umm, firstly...pics or it didn't happen ?

Tough to state the local value, there's not a lot of german Warwick on the 2nd hand market. And 1984 is a fairly older one, likely to attract a collector more than a player?

I saw a old Masterbuild Fortress 5 string (german, great condition) go for R6500 - I thought that was cheap. The german Warwick's I have seen usually go for upwards of R8000. OTTH I saw a headless Warwick (80's oddity) go for R4000.

Maybe trawl talkbass and ebay for similar models and get a feel for the collectability/rarity/price?

I paid 9k for it, which seemed good considering that the Rockbass versions were similarly priced. It's been lying in a gun safe in Kroonstad for a number of years, as the dude mainly plays a Fender. It hasn't a scratch on it, and sounds great.

Just want to know if I got a good deal, or perhaps even got ripped off because it's an older instrument.

1994 makes more sense!

R9k is a fair price I reckon. Neither cheap nor ripped off. I saw a 1994 on Talkbass (fretless) go for $1k and a few new ones scattered around on ebay from $750-1000 + shipping.

I think the streamer is the least offensive shape from Warwick - the rest all look a bit phallic to me ?

What is a rip off is the full fat RRP on the new Rockbasses - think they start at around R12k. While I'm rather fond of my 2003 Rockbass Vampyre - easy playing neck & the bridge pup is the same one as in the masterbuilt one I saw - I'd not go much over R4k for it. The electronics are a bit slapdash imho.

Apparently much better in the latest ones, though I've poked around in a 2014 one and it looked identical, just had some better soldering and was a bit easier to swop the battery out.

So I did a bit of research. It seems that this model is known as the Streamer "Bolt-on", which is considered the forerunner of the Streamer LX. I think it sat under the Streamer Stage 1 and Stage 2 models, which were neck-through. I've seen nineties Stage 2 5-strings go for between $1300 and $1800 on Reverb. Yeh, I reckon it was a fair deal in our market.

In any event, I quite dig it. I compared it to a Yamaha BB425 last night, and I preferred the tones of the Streamer- Even with its ancient strings. So I'm going to give it a new set of strings, a good set-up, and hang onto it for a while.
