Hi Meron!
Listened on headphones, and to my ears it's clear and tight. Your vocalist has a brutal growl; melodic too. What do you guys do on stage so that the drums don't drown out the rest of the band? I've never been to ROAR, and I'm curious if the sound bounces around in there? In Joburg there used to be this venue in Melville called Roxy's. I saw Springbok Nude Girls there a couple of times, and could never quite hear Arno - I blame the acoustics.
Where do you guys draw your inspiration from, sound wise? Dig your sound.
Kind regards
Dave
Heya Dave - thanks for having a listen!
That was my first time at ROAR , they had just re-done the sound (apparently). On stage, monitoring wasn't great. Off stage sound was good - much better than I expected - vocals, bass and drums were pretty good. But the guitars was hit n miss. We were a miss, next two bands were much better. We were sharing cabs/rigs, I wasn't complaining although I suspect next gig we are all taking our own backlines (ack, stairs!).
Acoustically it's a fairly good space, some thought/skill has gone into the setup. Compared to the holes I grew up in metalling away in the 90's, it's deluxe :?
The sound guy (Alan) was strict on us though - ROAR wants to be known for good sound. Which meant he rode our guitarists a bit, they had to turn down well below our rehearsal level, which was weird. But made sense when he handed the DI recording of the night.
That should answer why the drums didn't drown everything out - everything was miced up/DI'ed and he did do some mixing on the night. Then our drummer/resident soundengineer got the DI stems and re-mixed. He did a great job, DI's are a bit muffled in comparison - though, we think maybe the micing on the guitar cabs couldn't handle the low end.
Not sure of band influences - did ask that question recently, so busy doing some listening/research. Tesseract, 12 Foot Ninja's, Voyager, Meshuggah have been placed on my playlist by the guys. Apparently Sepultura, Limp Bizkit, Korn are
soo 00's metal :?
