Painting guitar pickups

I came across the a pic of jason becker's guitar, and looks pretty funky:

Just wondering what would be the best way to do something like this, as i have some old pickups that can do with a new funky look, they dont hold any value to me, so i might as well experiment.

I'm thinking something in the line of Acrylic paint or fingernail polish(Jimi Hendrix used finger nail polish on his Flying V's body)

Is there anything else i can go look into?

Don't bother. Those in the pic are DiMarzios with coloured bobbins, rather than a paint. The solvents in most paints (and especially nail varnish, which is acetone - melts plastic) are dangerous to the insulation on the pickup coil wire. Paint will wear off pretty quickly too.

I think so, but i've never seen them in real life. might be worth a shot at $2 each.
