There's a small independent Irish movie that slipped under my radar until I saw it on DSTV recently. It's set in Ireland and tells the story of two struggling musicians looking for a break into the big time. Along the way, they perform the most incredible music - acoustic Irish stuff that just blew my mind. The story is simple yet moving. One of my favourite movies of the last two years. If you love the idea of watching a guy walking around with a battered acoustic guitar singing every chance he gets, this'll be for you.

My 2nd favourite musical scene from the movie (the best is a sing-along in a pub I couldn't find a clip for):
Huge was my surprise when I read that the movie won best song from a motion picure at the Oscars in 2007 for
Falling Slowly. I completely missed that (being such an award show fanatic!! ?). Here it is, with some clips from the movie:
Here's a

If you haven't seen this one guys, rent the DVD. You won't be dissapointed. Great love story, by the way (so buy the red wine and snuggle) ...
For a classic Oscar moment (when real people receive awards, not the Hollywood set), watch this clip of pure emotion from the 2007 Oscars). They then cue the music before Marketa gets the chance to speak, and bring her back out after she's walked off. Surely a first for the Oscars. Great clip:
I just wanted to alert anyone who may have missed it to this gem of a real, human, movie. It blew my mind. It's curently rotating on DSTV. Otherwise, Mr Video!
