iReal Pro for guitar practice

Hello everyone!

I was watching That Pedal Show's "Four great practice tools" episode yesterday, and one of them piqued my interest. It's an app for iPhone / iPad / Android / Mac, called iReal Pro. Dan, one of the presenters, wants to practice his jazz and saw another player practice with this app to great effect. Other than a handful of jazz CD's, I have no experience with jazz, but other genres are also covered in the app. Head over to http://www.irealpro.com/ to have a look. I don't think it'll replace my teacher, but it may just add a little variety to when I practice on my own. Worth spending a little birthday money, methinks.

iReal Pro has absolutely changed my life!

I use it every single day in the practice room and on gigs. That's why you'll always see a music sheet stand in front of me on stage. I create playlists according to our sets and as a result I also always have a structured chord sheet on hand.

As a practice tool is it invaluable for all and any style of music, not just jazz. Change tempo, key, groove and style on the fly... It's also great to lay down a quick rough-and-ready track when the inspiration strikes. It is an unbelievable app and a must-have for the modern musician IMHO. I have it in both Android and iOS and it costs under R400 last time I checked.

I see Fender Has Something Similar , Fender Play

for me I Use Rocksmith..
suppose they all have there Strengths and weaknesses

IReal pro is not like fender play or Rocksmith in that it's not a teacher, but an accompaniment. It looks great, I'm definitely keen to pick it up. My problem is, how do you rig it so it plays through your amp so you can jam with it?

It certainly is an accompaniment... The in-app forum page gives you access to thousands of free tunes for (literally) instant download. This means you'll have backing tracks in all major grooves for each song (from country, shuffle, rock to swing, samba, bossa, etc.) - incl. educational features.

For jamming, simply plug an aux cable from your device's headphone jack into your amp. A mini-jack to jack adapter will work fine if your amp does not take a mini-jack input.

My Marshall half stack doesn't have a headphone in ☹ I guess it's not meant for bedroom practice ?
