>☹ :'( ☹
Is there anybody here willing to offer a saturday morning (for booze or remuneration) to teach me midi?
Got everything set up before and even did some MIDI recording with my Korg SP170s through Presonus One...Connect it all in the same way again today...Nuthin! It sees the Korg, says connected to the Korg, but nothing happens. I'm gonna light this on fire and get a tape recorder!

Shuck you are in CT! >☹
I share your frustration
I also want to learn 'cause my hook-ups are never stable!
Any one on the forum willing to share insights for Reaper and other software?
Catering for both Mac IOS and Win IOS will also help.

oh, i feel it too. back in the day, i had it covered. my setup was simple:
technics kn1500(midi out) -> cakewalk9 (sequencer/arranger) -> technics kn1500 (midi in/audio out) -> cakewalk 9 -> audio in
basically, i was using the kn1500 to trigger midi, sending the midi signal through cakewalk and back to the keyboard to generate the keyboard's on-board sounds, sending those back into cakewalk as audio. it's an absolute wonder i didn't experience massive latency issues. i'd play a note on the keyboard and hear it immediately played back. and i'd be using up to 12, 14 - even 16, 18 tracks at a time in playback; big back then; a good 8 to 10 years ago.
these days, i find using midi incomprehensible. maybe it's just because i haven't kept up with the tech. with how it's changed and evolved.
so i'd be in on something like this, sure. i still have the kn1500. it's ancient, but essentially shouldn't i be able to use it as a simple midi controller?

Hi
This probably won't be helpful but you are probably missing something very tiny in the setup. Google "recording midi keyboard Presonus one"
But here are a few things to check. (I'm using the free Presonus Studio One 3.3)
a) I assume presonus one actually sees your midi input (you have some sort of midi in interface to your PC)
b) Add an instrument track (Track -> add instrument track) You should see one appear in the work area
c) then on the left of the track make sure that the little speaker button and the record button are pressed\enabled (next to the M for mute and S for solo)
d) you still wont actually hear anything, you need to add a VST instrument that your midi notes from your korg will trigger. So... press F3 to bring up the console. Press F6 to bring up the instrument window (all can be done from the "View" menu at the top too.
e) Add an instrument like "grand piano" ... this synth is actually just a setting in the bundled "Presonus presence VST plugin"
f) Make sure your instrument track from step b is pointing to your Presonus Presence plugin (selected where it says "none" under the M and S buttons)
You should be good to go.
I take my beer by the case of Black Label.
Cheers.

I did everything the same as the previous time I recorded successfully. Will do a step by step as mentioned, and then, and ONLY then will I consider handing over the case of Black Label.
Renesongs used to give music production classes, is he still on the forum?

So I tried again this weekend.
Plugged in Piano, restarted computer, the whole nine yards. If nothing is plugged in and you Launch Presonus, it usually says: There is no midi devices connected, do you want to configure?
No such message. And you can see it defaults to the Korg, but press a note and nothing happens. I tried doing a live recording, but because I haven't done my 10 000 hours of practice. So my I have to do-over about 15 times, where the nidi editor would just be easier...suffer for your art the say... :-[
