[POLL] Where do you find your gear?

Curious where people look for their gear - be it bargain hunting, scratching a G.A.S itch or something that you actually need...where do you look/buy from?

Out of +/-30 instruments I've owned, I've bought 3 new - none of them locally! Although I have bought quite a few fx/bits new locally. If I reallly need it, I'll order intl - but it's rare and usually for parts that I cannot find locally.

I mostly trawl gumtree, facebook groups and GFSA with the occasional (and usually unsuccessful) visit to a pawn store.

The problem with local retailers are the availability of stock and in many cases the price.

Many locals are willing to order but the waiting time and sourcing fee does not satisfy my wallet. In addition when I followed up on the status of orders a bag of excuses was provided but no definite order number or estimated time of arrival.

Buying second hand also poses its unique challenges when the seller does not declare everything. So to touch and listen is always a winner before dishing out the Moola to reduce the risk of feeling duped

FB, GT and sometimes I go to MARS music when I want something brand new, which isn't often.

I don't think I own a single guitar that I bought brand new. Mostly out of necessity, I've bought from Junkmail, Gumtree and, once this place existed, GFSA. But seeing as I'm not too experienced with amps and speakers and pedals, I would seriously consider buying those brand new. Come to think of it, I did buy 1 amp brand new. Roland Cube 15 or 30. That thing was solid. Other amps and pedals that I bought second-hand had issues. So it's tricky. IMO it's tough to buy reliable electronics second hand but, for guitars, I'd say it's practically required. You get stuff that has a history, mojo and, as long as you get a demo of the thing, or can try it yourself, it's probably not going to break. (Or can be fixed for much less than the price you paid.) Won't lie though, I'd LOVE a brand-spanking new JS2450 (Muscle Car Purple *drool*)

I bought a bass at Cash Converters yesterday. Otherwise it has been through Facebook (Music Revolution Page) and Gumtree.
