When last did you write/record a song

Sitting down for this month's challenge reminded me that I havn't gotten serious about writing a tune in quite a while - can't recall when last I got immersed in transforming an idea into sound (or organized noise ::)).

When last did you get an idea into a listenable form?

so... this year will be incredibly hectic for me, work-wise. the missus is also taking strain at work. and the kids are in chaotic places at school (std 7 and std 9 - i'm old skool). so we're all needing to be there for each other.

that said, i really want to do something with a whole bunch of old lyrics i have lying around. they need crafting, trimming, adding to, shaping and, ultimately, musicking and recording. i've got hold of a bunch of tuts on reaper, so it's time to go to it. even if it's only three or four by the end of the year, so be it...

the one from last year is a simple two-track of which i'm a little bit ashamed; guitar and vocals and not much thought behind it...

I've written a few over the last few months. Only one did I take the whole way through recording, the rest are waiting in a folder.

Why oh Why do we have to work.... :-[

Haven't touched my guitars in over a month - except for packing them away for the move, only to not bring them due to limited space. It's a sad sad day...

Wrote a song to my favourite wife for Valentines day (Disclaimer I have only one) to celebrate 31 years of sharing each other's lives.
Played it to her on V Day during a candle lit dinner. She listened to it with attention and requested a replay. It was simply lekker to dedicate this song to her.

I wrote a song September 2015. My brother's wife was battling cancer, I handled it in my best way, by telling their lifestory. She however passed away on the 7th of November 2015. I've never played it to my brother...don't want to open any wounds....I still sing it every now and then, think it might be my favourite.

Hey Nitebob. It's interesting that a lot of powerful songs are spawned from intense emotional battles. Last year a friend of a friend was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. His life was shattered. My friend's life was shaken as well. In situations like this, keeping hope/faith/positivity is a challenge not easily overcome.

So my friend wrote 2 verses, and a chorus over a chord progression. 3 weeks ago, I assisted him in another verse, bridge and adjusting the chorus. Last week, we recorded a brief "guide" track. Tomorrow is band practice again, where we will probably be working on it again.
